Why buy a 150 over a 100?
The compact size of the 100 is initially appealing especially when lab space is at a premium. But once the scientist starts to use the instrument it frequently gets too small of what they find they can do with it. The configurability of robotic instruments lend themselves for use by more than one process. Different processes can require different automation devices as well as specific carriers. In addition, the price differential when purchasing from Konnis is a small fraction to go from a 100 to a 150, so the decision is typically obvious. Therefore unless there is only one specific use the instrument will ever be used for, Konnis recommends going with the 150 as a good compromise between functionality and space.

What does SBS format mean? and why do I care?
SBS Footprint, Stands for “Society for Biomolecular Screening”. This form factor is also referred to as SLAS/ANSI form factor. Dimensions required of a microplate that is considered to meet the standards. Using standard sized carriers and adapters help to ensure interchangeability.

The range of tolerance for SBS standard is quite large in the manufacturing world, if you would like a tighter fit of your labware, send us a microplate sample for an exact measured fit within 0.0001 inches.

Does Konnis offer pipette tips for Tecan®, Beckman®,Perkin Elmer®, and Agilent Bravo® instruments?
Yes. We have pipette tips, microplates, troughs, and adapters that fit these instruments from the above manufacturers. Typically, they are sold in case formats with the quantities differing based on the product in the case. Volume order and standing order discounts are available.
What is the difference between a liquid instrument and an air instrument?
The main difference is that one uses liquid (typically DI water) as displacement plunger along with an air gap to pipette where as the air instrument uses only air. The fluid filled system allows you to pipette volumes based on the size of the syringe, as well as the ability to wash out the fixed tip canulas with a flow through process.

Can 1000 ul tips pipette lower volumes?
1000 ul tips can be used down to single ul pipetting depending on the characteristics of the fluid and what your acceptable %CV is, but are recommended for 10 ul and above. In general lower volume pipetting should utilize the smaller tips and low volume tubing. If you have questions on what tip size to use please call us to discuss your specific requirements.

Do you offer nested tips for Liquid handlers?
Yes, we have a few options for nested tips that can be used on your Liquid handler depending on the model. Not all instruments can fit, or make full use of nested tips. Our nested tip comes in a 200uL volume with a stack of 10 trays of 96 tips in the footprint of one deepwell plate. The stack of tips can be placed on the deck of the system and the new and used trays of tips can be moved by use of a gripper arm on your instrument. This makes very good use of space on the deck and can allow some instruments to fit more than 10,000 tips on the instrument.
